Maryland Slow Net - Getting Started

MSN: Every night 7:30 p.m. Local on 3.563 MHz

	The net starts like this:

CQ CQ CQ MSN / KE3FL (call) MSN IS THE MARYLAND SLOW NET WHICH

MEETS AT THIS TIME DAILY FOR TRAINING TRAFFIC HANDLERS AND TO PASS

TRAFFIC X ALL ARE WELCOME X MSN QND
(QND = This is a Directed Net)

	PLEASE QNZ V V V V V QNN KE3FL/PHIL X MSN
(QNZ = tune up on me now) (QNN = Net control station is)

	QNA MDD REP K
(QNA = specified station check-in please)

At this point the MDD rep will check in with or without
traffic. Then the net control station (NCS) will ask for
	any other checkins as in:

	MSN QNI K
(QNI = All others wishing to check-in come now)

At this time send one letter (I like to send an L, as in
ke3fL) If the NCS selects/hears your letter he/she will echo
it back. That is your permission to give your entire
callsign and to tell the NCS why you're checking in, as in
    one of the following:

	L L de KE3FL ge Bob QRV TNG MSG NR 4 K
(from KE3FL good evening Bob check me in [QRV = I am ready for]
	      training message number 4 - back-to-you.)

The rest you will learn as you receive the training
messages. Good luck and enjoy. You'll have guaranteed
QSO's every time you check-in with people who are very good
at sending CW at your speed. You'll find your cw speed
	increasing without even realizing it.

The Maryland Slow Net meets every day at (19:30) 7:30 PM
local time on or about 3.563 MHz. Everyone is welcome to
	train with them.

I strongly recommend it as an excellent way to learn code,
and for learning to become a traffic handler.

MSN is not the only slow net we can hear and participate in,
I heard one called MCSS - "Mass/Conn Slow Speed" at about
	9PM on 3.715 MHz.

So, if the 7:30 PM time slot does not fit in with your
schedule, perhaps the time of one of the other "local" slow
	nets would.

Once you become proficient at code you can move up to the
faster speed nets such as MDD (the Maryland-DC traffic net)
which is held twice daily at (19:00) 7:00 PM local time for
outgoing messages, and again at (22:00) 10:00 PM local time
	for incoming messages.

All slow net traffic goes though the MDD rep (remember MDD
rep was the first one requested to check in when the slow
net started) and gets delivered to the faster speed nets to
pass to the rest of the country.
